Travel News for Week of February 18

By February 18, 2018Blog

Hi Everyone,

We all know that  911 is the U.S. emergency number, but that number won’t work in many other countries.  If you are traveling overseas, check out the U.S. State Department’s  handy PDF list of emergency numbers by country. Note that many have different numbers for ambulance vs. fire vs. police, so be sure to save all of them in your contacts.  Also, depending on the type of phone you have, you might have an automated way to call the local emergency number. If your iPhone is running iOS 11, you can access Emergency SOS by either pressing and holding the side button plus one of the volume buttons (for iPhone X, iPhone 8, or iPhone 8 Plus) or rapidly pressing the side button five times (iPhone 7 or earlier). This should trigger an Emergency SOS slider that will let you call emergency services no matter where you are.    Those of you with Android phones most likely have something very similar.

When you are traveling it’s easy to forget your flight number, departure time, precise hotel name and address, and the like, especially for a return flight.  The easiest thing to do is make a copy of your itinerary and put it in your suitcase.   I have always advocated, scanning what you need and emailing it to yourself, but if you aren’t going to have access to email, another option is to leave yourself a voice mail message with critical information, save it and dial in to your voicemail.

Travel insurance provider Allianz Global Assistance analyzed U.S. travelers’ Spring Break travel plans this year, and found that Orlando and Cancun are once again the most popular domestic and international destinations.  Most popular domestic destinations for spring break: Orlando, Phoenix, Honolulu, Ft. Lauderdale, and Las Vegas.   Most popular international destinations: Cancun, Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, Dominican Republic,  and Jamaica.
