I have spent a lot of time traveling and there are some hotel rooms I stay in where I just have to ask myself, who thinks this is a good idea? One memorable hotel in Europe placed the glass shower right in the middle of the bedroom! Interesting. Turns out that the major players like Marriott and Hilton actually have labs where they experiment with room designs, as well as new technology and services which they hope will enhance their guests’ experiences.
There is a bit of pack rat in all of us. When I first started traveling, I used a 30″ suitcase and threw in all kinds of things, just in case. Now my 25″ suitcase is plenty large enough for any trip. Smarter Travel has a few good tips for cutting down on overpacking:
- Limit yourself to 3 pairs of shoes, including the pair you are wearing. Shoes take up a lot of room and weight.
- Leave “just in case” clothes home. If you absolutely get a unique opportunity, go shopping.
- Keep your clothes in the same color palette so you can mix and match.
- If you can’t wear an item more than once, leave it home.
- Last-minute panic packing leads to a messy suitcase, forgotten essentials, and mismatched clothing. This also gives you time to trim down after you’ve started packing.
- Packing cubes are worthwhile. They help you put everything in its place and you’ll know right away if you are missing something.
A little trivia…In 1967, Princess Cruises became the first cruise line to bring passengers through the Panama Canal. Now, in another major milestone, Princess’ Caribbean Princess ship has become the first megaship to pass through the canal’s expanded Neo-Panamax locks.
