Travel News for Week of November 26

By November 26, 2017Blog

Hi Everyone,

We have survived Black Friday but Cyber Monday looms.    Travel companies have great specials during this time as well so if you are thinking of traveling, this is a great time to take advantage of these short term deals.

There is nothing more frustrating than standing at the luggage carousel and realizing that your luggage is not coming out.   Airlines are doing a better job of keeping track of luggage but lost luggage still occurs.   If you find yourself in this spot, do not leave the airport without filing a claim, making sure the airlines have your contact info.  The airlines have ways to track bags, and the vast majority of misplaced luggage is returned eventually. If your bags are on the next flight, you could have them within a few hours. If they’ve been sent to the wrong airport, it could take a couple of days. The maximum an airline pays if bags are truly lost is currently limited to $3,500 per passenger on U.S. domestic flights, and a varying rate per passenger for checked baggage on international flights based on the Warsaw Convention or the Montreal Convention. In the US, if you paid a checked baggage fee for your lost bag, the airline must refund your fee. Check your carrier’s website for specifics.   Even though that is the maximum amount, most airlines will not refund anything close to that so be prepared.  The airlines typically have a long list of items for which they will not be held responsible; these include jewelry, money, heirlooms and other valuables.

Disney is making some changes on the Disney Magic cruise ship.  At Rapunzel’s Royal Table, families will experience an all-new dining experience inspired by the beloved story of Disney’s “Tangled.” The first table service restaurant themed to “Tangled” that features characters and live entertainment will transport your Clients to the kingdom of Corona for an enchanted evening of music and interactive fun featuring Rapunzel and the mischievous Snuggly Duckling Thugs.

Also, teens are getting a refurbished space.  Vibe, the space on the ship reserved for teens ages 14-17, is being transformed into a trendy urban loft environment. At Vibe, teens can enjoy a new coffee and smoothie bar, play video and virtual reality games, and check out other cool activities with new friends like a DJ spin-off and movie making.

Adults can relax at Cove Café, an adult-exclusive retreat that will be redesigned in a sophisticated tropical style. It’s the perfect place to sip a specialty coffee or tea throughout the day, or indulge in wine or a cocktail and light bites during the evening hours.

The new enhancements debut on Disney Magic sailings starting March 9, 2018, from Miami, Florida.
