Travel News for Week of November 5

By November 5, 2017Blog

Hi Everyone,

We just finished a great Hawaiian tour visiting three islands:  Oahu, Kauai, and Maui.     This tour was a little different from other guided vacations as there was a great balance between sightseeing and free time to allow us to enjoy the pools and beaches at each destination.  Three days were allotted to each island.   On Oahu we enjoyed a city tour, visited Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memorial, the Punchbowl Cemetery, as well as Oahu’s famous North Shore where we saw the famed “big wave” beaches.     Our short fight to the Garden Isle of Kauai was quite a change from the hustle of Waikiki.    We visited Waimea Canyon, considered to be the Grand Canyon of the West.  We also visited a coffee estate, and took a boat road to the Fern Grotto.   We even learned how to do the hula.    The Valley Isle of Maui was another change of pace.   Our beachfront resort served as our base from which to do a number of tours as you please:   The Road to Hana,  Catamaran cruising,  a sunrise tour of Haleakala, or we were able to just enjoy the beach or the pool.    Our last evening together was a treat as we attended a Polynesian Luau, a great ending to our tour.    This was a great way to see the islands.

The holidays are right around the corner.   If you are planning to fly, please remember a few important rules, especially when trying to transport gifts.   First of all, you may as well skip the gift wrap.   If your gift ends up getting opened for inspection, your fancy wrapping will be destroyed anyway.    Also, you cannot carry on gifts  or decorations containing liquid.  Jellies, jams, salsas, gourmet mustard and cheeses will likely be confiscated at security and should instead be transported in your checked baggage. You must also be sensitive to federal regulations regarding the transport of fruits, vegetables and plants as they may contain harmful pests.  You don’t want to be the one holding up the security line at a time when it will most likely be very crowded.
