Travel News for the Week of November 13

By November 13, 2022Blog

Hi Everyone,

Marriott has had an apartment rental presence outside of North America for a long time. They are now expanding into the United States and Canada with Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy.  Marriott says the new brand is designed to meet growing demand from families seeking more space and wider accommodations options.    Apartments will feature separate living room and bedroom, a full kitchen and a washer and dryer. These apartments will be upscale and will be different from their brands like Residence Inn or Townplace Suites which have some traditional amenities like food and beverage options.

During the pandemic, none of us could cruise, but cruising is back.  If you are going on a cruise, these tips may help you:

  • When you board the ship you most likely will not be able to get into your stateroom right away.  Put a change of clothes in your carryon so that you don’t have to spend the day in your travel clothes.
  • Typically, cruise lines will have food available for you when you get on the ship.   Most people head straight for the buffet and sometimes staff are sending you that way.  It won’t be comfortable.  Thousands of people trying to juggle their food and carryons is not a relaxing way to begin your vacation.  See if any of the dining rooms are available.  It will be much more relaxing.
  • Tour the ship to get your bearings.  Start from the top and walk down.  The elevators will be very busy.
  • If you aren’t happy with your dining times or locations, check to see when you can talk to the Maitre’d.   He/she will be happy to help you if they are able. Depending on the cruise line, you may be able to make changes to meal arrangements right on the cruise line’s app.
  • When you do get into your room, make sure everything is in working order and then get unpacked.  Let your cabin steward know if you need extra hangers.  Put your clothes away and your suitcases under the bed so you aren’t tripping over them for the entire cruise.
  • Make sure you go up on deck for the sail away party.   It always feels good to feel the ship underway.
Condé Nast Traveler identified 6 airports that allow visitors to accompany ticketed travelers to their gate. They include Flint-Bishop International Airport, Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, John Wayne Airport in Orange County, CA. Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, and Ontario International Airport in CA.  People who are not flying must produce a government issued identification and must pass a background check so this is not something that can be done on the spur of the moment but it can be done.
