Delta Airlines announced Monday that it would be updating its policies to ban emotional support animals from flights scheduled to last longer than eight hours. Also, support or service animals under 4 months old will not be allowed on any flight. Delta’s decision comes after an 84 percent increase in reported incidents involving service and support animals since 2016 including urination, defecation, and biting.
Delta also announced that they will be implementing a new boarding procedure and have aligned boarding by the type of seat you have. Delta One passengers will board first followed by Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort Plus, Sky Priority, Main Cabin 1, 2 and 3, and Basic Economy. On flight without Delta One or Premium Select, boarding will start with First Class. Delta will introduce a color scheme designed to distinguish its fare products and will eventually display that color online for shoppers, and on boarding passes and jetway screens .
In 2018, the US Department of State introduced a new travel advisory system. Instead of travel warnings and alerts every country has an overall Travel Advisory Level with levels of advice from 1-4.
- Level 1: Exercise normal precautions.
- Level 2: Exercise increased caution. Be aware of heightened risks to safety and security.
- Level 3: Reconsider travel. Avoid travel due to serious risks of safety and security.
- Level 4: Do not travel Avoid travel due to serious risks to safety and security. It is not a ban, but it is advice and comes with a warning that the US may be limited in their ability to provide assistance in an emergence.
The travel advisories will also provide a clear reason for the level assigned and will be updated based on any changes that may occur. The Department of State also provides icons that indicate the risk:
- C: Crime
- T: Terrorism
- U: Civil Unrest
- H: Health Issues
- N: Natural Disasters
- E: Time Limited Events
- O: Other
