Travel News for Week of December 30

By December 30, 2018Blog

Happy New Year, Everyone! I hope that 2019 is the best year yet for you.

If you are going to renew your passport, you may want to consider doing so before April as fees are going to increase. Adult passports will increase from $135 to $145. Youth passports (age 16 or younger) will increase from $106-$116. The increase does not apply if you renew through the mail. Give yourself adequate time. Right now the government is processing passports but not sure how long that will last if the shut down becomes lengthy.

This week’s Cruise Critic   had an interesting article about some of the things you should not book while on a cruise. Cruise lines visiting warm weather ports will often have an excursion that basically takes you to the beach, drops you off, and then takes you back to the ship. This is one of those excursions where walking or grabbing a cab will save you money. Since the beaches are usually close, the risk of getting back to the ship late is not high so save your money and get there yourself.

The other event that you may want to forgo is the Art Auction. Not many of us know the value of the art pieces up for sale so attend if you wish, enjoy the free champagne, but save your art purchases until you are on dry land.

If you are going on a warm weather cruise, don’t forget to pack some cruising clothes in a carry on. Your room may not be ready when you board and the last thing you want to do is spend half a day in your winter clothes.
