Federal officials want to expand facial recognition to all travelers as they enter or leave the country, including previously exempt American citizens. A filing from the Department of Homeland Security revealed a proposal to require all travelers, not just foreign nationals or visitors, to be photographed for facial recognition before being allowed to enter or leave the US. The DHS uses the biometric facial recognition system to prevent visitors or travelers from fraudulently using US travel documents, and to identify criminals or suspected terrorists. As might be expected, there has been pushback to the proposed regulation in Congress so we’ll have to wait to see how this plays out
My favorite river cruise line, Uniworld, is embarking on a new adventure. They have announced plans to expand to South America for the first time in 2020. They will offer two new itineraries on the Peruvian Amazon onboard the Aria Amazon. The new itineraries include the 15 day Peruvian Amazon & Machu Picchu Exploration that starts off with a land portion in Lima staying at a 5 star hotel, followed by a 7 night cruise through the Amazon rainforest. The trip ends in the heartland of the Inca Empire with visits to the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, and Cusco. The 11 day Peruvian Rivers and Rainforest Discovery itinerary gives guests the chance to explore the capital of Lima and the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve as well as sail the Amazon River roundtrip from Iquitos.
Most of us now have credit and debit cards with chips in them. They are supposed to be more secure and for the most part, they are. There is, however, a new pickpocketing scheme that allows someone to use a small card reading device to steal your credit card information just by being close to you. You can purchase special RFID blocking wallets to block those devices or if you don’t want to do that, you can just purchase some RFID sleeves. They are very inexpensive. You can get a package that has about 20 of them, including a few for your passport. Several places sell them but Amazon has many choices.
Check out the two new tours for next year that are available for a limited time at a reduced price. Sunny Portugal and Spotlight on the French Riviera tours are both off season at great prices. Scroll down for the information and a link to the itinerary.
