Travel News for Week of September 11

By September 11, 2022September 14th, 2022Blog

Hi Everyone,

If you were planning a river cruise this fall, you were holding your breath.  The lack of rain caused river levels to fall to levels that made it impossible for navigation in some areas.   The good news is that rain has arrived in Europe and there has been enough rain to help replenish parts of Europe’s most affected rivers to water levels sufficient for the normal operation of sailing.   Hopefully, Europe will continue to get more rain as it is not just cruising that’s affected.  Many  industries  in Europe use the rivers to move supplies and product and that has been a huge challenge.

Carnival Cruise Line has enacted a change to its Minor Guest Policy effective immediately, implementing a fleet wide curfew for children age 17 and under.  “If these guests are not accompanied by an adult in their traveling party 21 years of age or older, they must be clear of all public areas by 1:00am each evening unless involved in a Club 02 or Circle C teen activity.”   I’m not sure why minors need to be roaming a ship at 1:00am anyway, but that’s just my opinion.

New data from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) found that the United States remains the world’s biggest and most powerful travel and tourism market contributing 1.3 billion dollars to the country’s economy last year.  This was still a bit of a decline from pre pandemic levels but clearly shows that travel is bouncing back.  China and Germany rounded out the top 3 most powerful tourism markets.-Travel Pulse
