Travel News for the Week of March 3

By March 3, 2024March 10th, 2024Blog

Hi Everyone,

A few weeks ago I watched a story on the evening news that showed luggage handlers throwing wheelchairs around with total disregard for the chair or the user that will have to deal with the damage.  I was appalled and apparently enough other people were that the Transportation Dept. has proposed new rules with penalties up to $125,000 for mishandling of a wheelchair.  It would also require training for airline workers who load wheelchairs onto aircraft or who help transport flyers in wheelchairs.

A few month ago, France eliminated short haul flights in their country. Spain has now followed suit. the country is pushing to ban domestic plane routes where passengers are instead able to take a train in less than two and a half hours. This may include private jets as well as commercial airlines.

If you are planning a trip to Disney World, get ready to pay a bit more.   Beginning September 27, the lowest price ticket will cost $119. beginning September 27, 2024.  Tickets can go as high as $184 depending on when you visit.  Disney does offer several promos so it would be beneficial to check any availability  for your time period.   Disney is also giving people who stay at their resort hotels a big perk: free entrance into their waterpark.-Travel and Leisure

The Transportation Security Administration continues implementing  its facial recognition at airports nationwide. United Airlines and Delta will soon be offering TSA PreCheck customers a touchless  ID experience during bag drop and security checkpoints.  This will allow select TSA PreCheck travelers to avoid using a physical ID or boarding pass to verify identity.  Instead, travelers can get a quick facial scan when checking bags and passing through the PreCheck lane.-The Points Guy

May 12-22, 2024. Countryside of the Emerald Isle.  If you have traveled to Ireland and loved it, this is part two.  If you have never been to Ireland, this is an amazing journey that will instill that love for the Emerald Isle.  This is not the same tour that we normally do.  This explorations tour is limited to 24 people going slightly off the beaten path.  We will fly into Dublin and then head south. We will head to the National Stud Farm where you will see amazing thoroughbreds and opulent gardens.  Stand at the rock of Cashel where St. Patrick is said to have preached.  Visit the coastal town of Kinsale to enjoy the shops and galleries before heading to the Old Midletown distillery, home of Jameson Whiskey.
