Travel News for the Week of February 11

By February 11, 2024Blog

Hi Everyone,

One of the latest scams involves hotel bookings.  Hackers have been targeting hotel booking sites.  They send emails to a hotel asking them to click on a link which downloads malware.  The hacker steals customer reservation data, credit card info, and other details. The imposter then pretends to be the hotel and messages guests with another payment link. For users it is almost impossible to detect that it is not the hotel but a criminal behind the email or message.  The most important thing to remember is that anything can be faked.   If you receive a suspicious email or communication you should contact the hotel directly.  Do not respond to the email and do not use the phone numbers in the communication.  Representatives impersonating hotel staff may make things seem urgent-that is a red flag. -Fodor’s Travel

If you have a Norwegian cruise that visits Venice, you will want to check your itinerary.   Norwegian is cutting the canal city from its cruise itineraries.  “Due to the restrictions on large cruise ships sailing into the Venice Lagoon and dock at the usual piers, large cruise ships calling to Venice are required to anchor outside of the lagoon and utilize tender boats to access the Port of Venice,” a Norwegian Cruise Line spokesperson told T+L. “While we have made every effort possible to maintain these calls to Venice, the tender operation and overall experience this provides our guests has fallen short of the standard we aim to deliver.” -Travel and Leisure

The Amalfi Coast is one of the most beautiful places in Italy but it has always been a little difficult to get there due to lack of good air options close to this amazing place.  That will change soon as Salerno prepares to open an airport in July. The airport is 28 miles southeast of the town of Amalfi and only 13 miles from the city of Salerno.
