Travel News for the Week of February 4

By February 4, 2024Blog

Hi Everyone,

The US Government tries to keep all of us informed about places that are safe to travel and places that are not.  They use a 4 tiered system:

Level 1  Use normal Precautions.

Level 2  Use Increased caution.

Level 3 Reconsider travel

Level 4 Do not travel

Some of the countries that have been  updated recently include The Bahamas  (Level 2) and Jamaica(Level 3).    It is easy to check on the country you are planning to visit by going to travel.state.gov.Before you get too alarmed, realize that many countries have issued levels of concern for areas of the United States as well.

The US Government also encourages citizens to apply for the STEP program. This is a free service that allows US citizens and nationals traveling and living abroad to enroll with the nearest US Embassy or Consulate. You will receive important info from the Embassy about safety conditions in your destination country to help you make good decision.   It will also help the US Embassy contact you in an emergency or disaster.    Having said all this, millions of people travel the world every day and the great majority never experience any problems.

You may remember that a couple of months ago Delta  Airlines dealt with a serious backlash surrounding its frequent flyer program..  Much of this was centered around the use of Delta’s Lounges.  Delta acted quickly to walk back some of those restrictions but now they are prepared to implement some of those changes next year.  Beginning Feb.1, 2025, Delta Sky Miles card holders will see a cap instituted on the number of visits they will be allowed each year. AMEX Platinum members will be allowed 6 visits a year and AMEX Reserve members will be allowed 10 annual visits.  Already implemented, basic economy tickets will are not longer allowed in the Delta lounges no mature what type of card they hold.   Oh, by the way, the cost of these cards will increase this year.

Please note that you may see a different email when you receive the blog,  It will most likely end: @shared1.ccsend.com.   This is due to the new government regulations regarding large mailings.  The company that I use is called Constant Contact. Be assured  that I write the content.  They just pull my blog each week to send to you.  Nothing has changed except the new ending of the email.   If you need to contact me, always use lynn@fullertravelservice.com.
